"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17
The Mornings of Recollection is an apostolate of spiritual friendship for men built on a nine point CHALLENGE. It challenges each man to grow in holiness through a continuing conversion of heart, and to develop a prayerful and loving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, His Mother and our Mother. With confidence we know of our spiritual adoption as sons of a Most High King (Romans 8:17), a lineage inherited through the redemptive power of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection and the grace of the Holy Spirit.

To gain the imperishable crown, we must engage in a daily spiritual combat from the moment we awake until we sleep again. To become and to remain an effective disciple at home, in the work place, and in social gatherings is a life-long struggle. Requiring perseverance and training, the combat is never out of view of the Cross. Mindful that the vast majority of men have no priest or spiritual director alongside them for 167 hours out of the week, the Mornings’ apostolate embraces the principle that we fight better –and with more joy- in the companionship of like-minded brothers.
The Mornings meet from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM the first and third Saturdays of each month in Fellowship Hall at Saint John the Apostle. Coffee and doughnuts are offered.
Our speakers are lay and clerical. We open with prayer, a hymn, and brief introductions. The speaker provides a 10 to 15 minute recollection geared toward an aspect of practical discipleship. A 25 to 35 minute discussion follows. Time permitting, there may be a brief directed examen of conscience. We close with prayer, including an opportunity to have the others pray for a specific intention. Many men then go Mass at 9:00AM.
Underlying the Mornings is a modest challenge for each man:
